Get away from it all VISIT THE FUNZI ISLAND
About Funzi Island
Enriched with picturesque scenery and tranquil ambiance, Funzi Island is a hidden gem completely off the radar to many tourists. Accessible only by boats, this island has remained isolated for centuries of years. Think of it as a safari on the beach type of a getaway with conservation as their backdrop jewel.
Events, festivals and markets
Funzi Island hosts a variety of vibrant festivals and markets that celebrate art, culture, and environmental conservation. The Bahari Huru Festival, or 'Free Ocean' festival, raises awareness about marine pollution and climate change through art. This annual event features over 40 artists and attracts more than 7,000 attendees across multiple beach communities. The Diani Sea Turtle Festival, held each June, educates the public about sea turtles with activities like sand sculpture competitions and scavenger hunts. Various craft fairs offer a relaxed shopping experience with many stalls selling handmade goods, with most of the proceeds going to community causes.

Beaches and kite surfing
Funzi Island and the nearby Diani Beach offer perfect conditions for kitesurfing. A variety of kite surfing tours and lessons are available. The island's off-shore winds create perfect flatwater conditions, and the sandy ground poses no hazards. Shady shelters and refreshments are provided, and the day ends with a boat ride and seafood lunch on a nearby island. Additionally, the 14-km kitesurf downwinder between Kongo Mosque and a local café along Diani and Galu Beach is a popular excursion, offering both flatwater and wave conditions. Diani Beach, renowned for its kitesurfing culture and the Kenya Kite Cup, is a year-round destination with favorable winds and exotic beaches.

Assist in rescuing and protecting sea turtles, contributing to broader marine conservation efforts. Make a real difference while enjoying the beauty of Funzi Island!
